- Well, "Slayer", I'm not certain where you are from (gr =
- Germany?) but you're not going to find a PC of any flavor in the US for
- 1/4 the price of an A4000T. Particularly if you want the monitor
- included. And real sound, and >4MB of memory, and a >1GB HD, and a full
- tower configuration. Actually, you may not be able to find one with -any-
- of those specs at that price. What's more, the A4000T with the '040 CPU,
- running its multi-tasking GUI is actually faster than most PCs available
- for about the same price and running what passes for a multi-tasking GUI
- on that platform. True, the overhead required for the GUI is the major
- reason for the poor comparison, but you have to measure the whole
- package. How impressed would you be with the best BMW if you replaced its
- transmission with a 2-speed automatic and filled its trunk with cement?
- The "Walker" is an update to the A1200, according to Petro T.,
- and incorporates several major improvements. Like the ability to add
- cards (and card slots). If the two in the basic unit are not enough, add
- more. And more. You can expand the "Walker" beyond the capacity of an
- A4000T! The 68EC030 (680EC30?) @ 40MHz may not be the most powerful of
- CPUs, but it is a >4X improvement on the standard A1200. It's faster than
- a standard A3000. It should compare well with most '486-powered PCs
- running Windows - very well if they are "running" WinNT or Win'95.
- I'll miss my clean laced screen and SCSI drive when I upgrade
- from my A3k to a "Walker", but right now I miss the new OS, the 4x
- CD-ROM, the AGA, the hi-speed serial port, etc. I'm upgrading.
